When we are born, we typically rely on our mother's breast milk to get the nutrients we need to build strong, healthy bodies as we grow beyond infancy. According to alandmark study on L. gasseri in 2013, after only three months, noticeable changes began to emerge in the experimental group, comprised of 62 obese volunteers, aged between 19 and 60, with fasting blood sugar/glucose readings consistently over 100. The findings were incredibly encouraging.
At the 12th week, a reduction in body weight was noted in the group that took L. gasseri. Not just that, the decrease in their waist and hip circumferences was much more pronounced than those who took a placebo.
In fact, all improvements occurred with no change in their behavior or diet!
These findings were supported by another important experiment the same year. That study tapped 210 Japanese volunteers of similar obesity levels and studied thespecific effects on reducing abdominal fat with L. gasseri.
Their results were also encouraging. It showed that consumption of L. gasseri at low doses exhibited a significant lowering effect on abdominal fat, and suggested that constant consumption of L. Gasseri will maintain the effect.
In a nutshell, these studies found that this beneficial bacteria might just be the key to shedding stubborn belly fat and supporting your body's ability to process sugar and avoid diabetes. Their results look extremely promising.
It may seem like a lot of heavy lifting for a single strain of probiotics, but the evidence speaks for itself.
A reduction in inflammation. While the studies didn't specifically research this aspect of L. Gasseri, users have long reported that regular consumption helps settle stomach issues and regulate digestion. Gasseri is particularly effective in scenarios where antibiotics aren't helping to heal gut issues like ulcers. When taken preemptively as opposed to starting L. Gasseri only when there's an issue, the positive effects are amplified.
Weight loss.The previously-mentioned studies highlight the fact that L. Gasseri helps reduce visible belly fat, but it works hard internally as well. Probiotics like this breast milk-derived strain can help reduce bloating and stomachaches in individuals prone to them - it's difficult to lose weight if you're constantly uncomfortable, after all.
Immunity-Boosting Effects.In a2014 study utilizing lab mice, L. Gasseri - both in its live and heat-killed form - was found to reduce the symptoms of directly-administered influenza virus. According to the study, the results show that the survival rate of the mice with the orally administered L. Gasseri was statistically significantly higher than that of the control mice.
Cholesterol-Lowering Effects.A2010 study found that L. Gasseri, when given in combination with inulin to men and women with high cholesterol, helped to lower low-density lipoprotein (aka LDL, the "bad" fats), triglycerides, and total blood cholesterol.
L. Gasseri is one of the building blocks our bodies rely on at infancy, so it stands to reason that adding it back into our diet as adults is a step in the right direction.
