Are you trying to lose weight? Sure, you may exercise regularly and play a lot of sports. But it’ll all be in vain if you touch these 5 foods to never eat for a flat stomach.
And I know there are articles out there telling you to avoid candy bars, alcohol, and low-fat/low-sugar options. That’s why this one is going to be different.
Because your diet is arguably more important than just getting exercise. And while we know that cheat meals once in a while is ok…
Ever wonder why once you pop a bag of chips, you just can’t stop? Or how we can eat a whole burger and still finish a side of fries?
Whether it’s crackers, cereal, chips, or fries, carb-only snacks are the worst ways to satisfy your hunger.
Because your body converts the starch into simple sugars. Which causes a spike in insulin to absorb the sugar.
The result? You end up with the same hunger pangs that caused you to snack in the first place.
What you should eat instead:
Snacks that contain a mixture of carbs, healthy fats, and more importantly, protein.
They satisfy you for longer, and are balanced small meals in themselves. Contributing to a balanced diet.
And if you’re choosing a carb snack, avoid white flour and refined sugars at all costs!
Especially white bread. Why?
Well, white flour has all the germ and bran of the wheat stripped out of them. Which leaves you with nothing but starch.
And how does your body react to this pure starch? The same way it reacts to pure sugar. You know the rest of the story.
That’s not all! White flour tends to be “enriched” with metallic iron. Yes, the stuff used to make gates and machines. Which isn’t bioavailable at all. Imagine that.
That’s why it’s best to avoid anything made from white flour: white bread, pasta, pizza, cereals.
What you should eat instead:
Go for whole grain options. Not even multigrain is made out of whole grain (unless stated).
Whole grain bread contains the fiber and iron from the wheat germ. And that’s healthier and satisfies your hunger better than pure starch white flour can.
Don’t freak out. Your favorite movie snack is safe. It’s just those supermarket microwavable popcorn that comes in bags.
Reports from the FDA and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) showed a dangerous chemical found in the bags (PFOA).
The chemical coating, when heated, turns into a toxic substance PFOA that is a “likely carcinogen”. It can increase chances of infertility and thyroid problems.
What you should eat instead:
Popcorn. You can pop your own corn using your stove. We have a recipe here that you can follow to make your own delicious, gut healthy popcorn.
Throw out your canned peaches, canned pineapples, and cocktail cherries. Because a study published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health showed that canned fruit consumption is linked to 17% higher risk of death from any cause.
While fresh and dried fruit is linked to a 10% lower risk of death.
They got their result from a 7 year study of eating habits of 65,000 adults in the UK. While there’s much to learn about why this happens…
One theory is the high-fructose corn syrup that the fruit is floating in. This is linked to high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, and even type-II diabetes.
Of course more studies have to be done to understand why this happens. Maybe it’s the BPA plastic packaging, refined sugars, or other toxic materials.
What you should eat instead:
It’s pretty obvious that fresh fruit is better than canned fruit any day of the week. Even frozen fruit (as long as no sugar is added) have the same nutrients as fresh fruit.
Bottom line: Stay away from canned fruit or food for that matter.
Apart from the added sugars, condensed milk contained an ingredient called carrageenan. Which is added to improve mouthfeel.
Carrageenan itself and the resulting products have been shown to cause inflammation, bowel disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and arteriosclerosis.
Which stems from digestive distress in the gut.
And this ingredient can be found in many dairy products as well like ice cream, chocolate milk, whipped cream, yogurt, cheese and low-fat deli meats.
What you should eat instead:
Choose regular cream or skimmed milk instead. Or if you really want to, you can do it homemade. Kitchenstewardship.com shows you how (click here)
